21 May 2019

My mom-in-law and I decided to arrange a musical afternoon at Nerina Gardens Retirement Home in Fish Hoek  – where she stays.

She went door to door inviting EVERYONE for tea and cake and light entertainment.

I practiced until my arms ached.

I also just knew God wanted me to talk on fear.

(It’s the one subject I am very qualified to talk about, I’m ashamed to say.)

One would think that as a Christian I would have conquered this long ago…

But sadly, no.

Every jolly day I still do battle against my enemy trying to stop the anxiety from breaching my walls.

The 21st May arrived.

My mom-in-law and I were nervous.

What if no one came?

The olden goldies started to arrive.

In droves.

We had to move furniture OUT the lounge to get more chairs IN.

They weren’t even fazed when the sister said there would be no tea and cake because they didn’t have enough!

We had a ball together.

The old songs were familiar to everyone and they hummed and swayed, and broke out into the choruses with gusto!

We talked of fear and of Jesus, of pain and hope.

There was a lot of hugging and tears.

Then the 2 fish and 5 loaves turned into so many cakes and biscuits that there were even leftovers! (How 25 cupcakes and 2 small packets of biscuits managed to feed 60 people – can only be God!)

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be

                                                                         Thank you, Father.
